Linda's Blog #7

Dear Barb and Arnie,
I was baking banana bread “en masse” and had two eggs boiling for my breakfast. I have to tell you I thought that I had a cleaner stove and oven than I obviously have. I really think that nothing says “come and get it, “like a smoke detector going off to wake you up for breakfast, along with the smell of fresh baking.

The snow storm that you guys had turned out to be a very nice little storm here. Just enough to cover the dirty snow with clean. (At least something is cleaner than the stove) With the added attraction of snow removal going all night. The plus 6 here so that means puddles and sunshine. It’s the plunge backwards into -30 that hurts.

I have a cold, and a guest not a good combo. He is very nice, and is an artist who is an extreme vegetarian. A VEGAN.
NO animal by products like eggs, milk or butter. NO worries actually I just make porridge and banana bread without the egg. This is the voice of experience talking, which is a scary thought I know. Try not to dwell on it.

I have a favorite shoe store here and it is going out of business, and this week found some work shoes that were very inexpensive. I bought two pairs as I roar thru them, as I am on my feet a lot during the summer. Business appears to be above last year’s levels so am still here and still going......like that damn bunny.

Coffee mugs still seems to be sacrificed to the glass God(dess) One of my four matching mugs went as I was trying to play hockey with it and a teapot. The small heavy glass teapot won. So now I have a trilogy of beverage holders, sigh.
I found a bag of balls, Lucy is outside playing. I remember when she came home for the first time, she would not stay outside, did not know how to play, so we have come a long way. She is a great girlie girl.

We had another date with Monty, another rescued Retriever and Lucy is the best trained. Proud momma bragging a bit......

It appears that this summer may be better than the previous two, with more inquires coming down the pike. ! Will see how it turns out. There are now six bed and breakfasts on sale. They say that Wal-Mart does not affect small bizeness. There has been one motel or hotel built per year since I arrived. Poop.

I have been having breakfast with the Director of Tourism once a month so I do have a say (ha!) or a least an Inn!

So I had a piece of purple paper left in my mailbox. (Say that fast five times) It was a realtor who stated that she had a client that was interested in a downtown property. So, after a little investigation on the web, it turns out that my contract with my realtor was up at the end of February. I call this Cathy realtor and I introduce myself, she does not recognize the name, but the address. Fine, so I was quiet, years of family therapy training come in handy and she does not say anything.

I encourage her to speak and I said that if she had someone that I could give her a 23-hour exclusive...”Did I want representation?” “No I would stay with my current realtor” if I were going to continue. I indicated that I was still on Wendy realtor website but not on MLS. Cathy indicated that she would check it out. So then I called Wendy and Russ, just to let them know this was going on. (Poaching?) Wendy called me back after her physio and I asked if she knew Cathy and yes indeed, Cathy was in the same office and the Shirley the realtor from Christmas fiasco. I told Wendy that the price was firm and if these so called clients were interested in the house, they had to sign a non compete letter, written by Rotwiler lawyer. AND I would move in across the street to make sure they did not set up shop. I set Wendy the terrier to chew on Cathy the skunk. They thought I would not notice. Funny Cathy has never gotten back to me about those clients...

Dinner tonight was good, I started to make chili and found that I wanted Sheppard’s pie so I ended up with spicy Sheppard’s pie. Really good. I froze some chili and then boiled some garlic smashed potatoes on top. Then popped it in the oven while walking the dog. Very good!

I have an appointment with the after hours clinic to have my nose examined, as I think it may fall off soon. I have been honking and blowing like a beluga whale. (Lots of animal in this letter) My sinuses are plugged or not I am sure. My head hurts. Of course, I saw my GP and my nose was fine. I cannot have the blood work until I get this nose under control

I found more crowns!! I have been searching for them everywhere. I give them to people for their birthdays and low and behold at the dollar store near me, there they were. There were also some tacky flower things you hand around your neck but I was the height of restraint.

The SPCA continues on its merry way, I go with the shelter manger on Monday to City Hall for the dreaded dog jog permit. Now there are all sorts of emails about the frigging date for the love of Goddess. When we should be focusing on advertising, permits, perhaps printing?? No, no it might if it is the second weekend in September interfere with dog agility trials. For the love of Pete will someone just shoot me now?

SO I have invited my mom here for August, at the height of the tourism season and my beloved sister in law has made it clear they will be painting the farm. “Putting their stamp on it.“ They are an hour from town and you and I know that it takes at least three trips to the hardware store to get any project going.....

I just got your letter, chin up, dear friend you are in my thoughts and prayers continually. Faith is thanking Goddess for events yet unfolded, I thank her for you’re continued good health and happiness, and joy too.
